The name was an accident. It turned out to be the point.

When I started this business in 2015 I looked around the industry and could not find myself in it. There were women in the rooms sometimes. Almost never at the front of them, and almost never women who looked like me.

So I registered a company, and I wanted the name to say something before anyone had read a word about us. I filed it as Digital She-Ra, after a cartoon superhero I loved as a child. CIPC came back with DigitalShero. They had made it better than I did.

Today we plan and run campaigns for some of the largest brands in this country, working out of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Nairobi. We have also put 32 screens of our own into the pharmacies, clinics, bottle stores and township malls where those campaigns actually land. In the aisle, at the moment somebody is deciding what to buy.

We are still independent. Still founder-led. Small enough that you get me on the phone, and established enough that the work stands up next to anybody’s.
And a girl who sees the name still thinks the job could be hers one day. That was always the point.
